Introduction
My project is on the Chicago Freedom Movement. The movement was led all around the country, but faced the most problem in chicago. The movement was led by Martin Luther King JR, James Bevel, Jesse Jackson Sr. and Al Raby, it was led to end slums in Chicago, provide food, money jobs and other necessities to black people who were getting treated horribly. MLK Jr and others took the movement to Chicago which at the time was the second largest populated city in the country.
Thesis Statement/Conflict
The Chicago Freedom Movement was a peaceful movement led by MLK JR, James Bevel, Jesse Jackson Sr. and Al Raby to end slums in Chicago. The movement was led all around the world, but was mainly focused on Chicago because of how many slums black people lived in. Many social tests were ran to see just how bad black people were treated. One main test was ran and showed the discrimination. First a black activist went to a property to buy it, but were declined because it "wasn't available at the moment", after that a white activist went to buy the property and all of the sudden it was available for purchase. Even though the discrimination was clear, The mayor (who at the time was Richard Daley) insisted he had everything under control but was proved wrong by Dr. King.
Historical Signifigance
The Chicago Freedom Movements Historical Significance was its impact and helpfulness to struggling black people who were not able to get jobs or housing because of their skin color. It helped struggling black people overcome all the negativity that higher ups bestowed on them, peacefully. It was also a peaceful protest that was a positive inspiration for other protests since they were able to get a whole law passed. It resulted in a positive outcome for black people who were easing in to more modern times.
